Who doesn’t want to be more impactful?

In this article, I will define the components that make up impact and provide you with a framework to work towards maximizing the impact you could make in 2020, in both your career as well as your life beyond it.

First, what is impact?

So, you may wonder, what is impact really? Impact is defined by a combination of productivity, communication, and charisma:

Your personal impact is first and foremost measured by what you contribute. However, and this may be surprising to most, a much larger aspect of your impact is defined by how you communicate with your peers, management, and stakeholders. Finally, your charisma acts as icing on the cake to define how your contributions influence your network in the most impactful manner.

For engineers, coding is only 30% of the job. We tend to primarily measure ourselves on what we contribute. However, what about the other 70%? Let’s take a closer look.
